We're visiting Flagstaff on our way to the South Rim in order to visit the Museum of Northern Arizona and the 20th Annual Trappings of the American West. The museum is located at 3101 North Fort Valley Rd and is open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Museum of Northern Arizona, 81 years old houses plenty to see including information of the Colorado Plateau, the Grand Canyon and Four Corners regions. A must see is the Geology Gallery, Archaeology Gallery, as well as the Ethnology, Kiva, Babbitt and the beautiful Navajo Weaving Gallery.
Housed within all the historical galleries is the 20th Annual Trappings of the American West. The show runs from October 10 to January 10, 2010 and is a must see if you are anywhere near the Flagstaff area. The show showcases contemporary fine and functional art of the American cowboy of 90 artists from 15 Western states as well as Hawaii and Canada are present. Paintings, sculpture, photography, saddles, and tooled leather are just a small sample of what is being presented.
Our next stop will be the South Rim of the Grand Canyon where we'll stay till next Friday. We'll continue posting from the South Rim so stay tuned.
