Tubac Arizona

Video from new truck cam

Tubac, Arizona, founded in 1752 is located 45 miles south of Tucson on I-19. Located in the Santa Cruz River Valley Tubac dates back 250 years and was the first European settlement in Arizona. Tubac is home today to southern Arizona's artist colony as well as the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park. Tubac is located a short 25 minute drive from the sister cities of Nogales AZ and Nogales, Sonora Mexico.

We made our first visit here in 1995 during our visit to Tucson and visit at least once a year since then. We met Mr. Hal Empie in his studio on one visit and bought several of his smaller pieces and started a friendship with Peter & Ann (Empie) Groves. No visit is complete without a visit to the Hal Empie Studio and The Artist Daughter. Hal sadly passed away in 2002 however, his work still brings joy to all.

Tubac is home to a kaleidoscope of colors as you walk the streets visiting the many shops and artist studios. One tip we've leaned (the hard way) is make certain you're wearing comfortable walking shoes. Another tip is water - remember you're in the Sonora Desert area and the sun can be very unforgiving as well as hot. We've said it before and it's well worth mentioning again "hydrate or die" is not just a slogan.
