Alaska - Fairbanks

Days 17 & 18

Images added to Days 12, 14, 15, & 16! Look for the moose!

Day 17: The day was spent driving from Tok to Fairbanks via Delta Junction. The drive like the rest of the trip was relaxed with a stop for lunch over looking just one of the many beautiful mountain ranges. We crossed a river that still had ice/snow on it – the snow actually looked to be at least 3 feet thick!

Arrived in Fairbanks around 2 p.m. and found our camp site Chena Marina & RV which is located on a floatplane pond. Set up camp, dropped the Lance off the truck and went for a drive. Speaking of drives; it took us 3,846 miles from our driveway to the RV Park and 17 days. Went out to dinner to celebrate our long drive at Pike’s Landing Riverfront Restaurant where we enjoyed a couple of cold beers and a steak.

Day 18: Laid back rest and catch up on housekeeping. We’re planning on taking a drive to the Artic Circle on Tuesday and going even further up to Coldfoot AK. It’s about 199 miles to the Artic Circle then an additional 60 to Coldfoot. Travel time to the Artic Circle is expected to be between 4 and 5 hours with an additional 1 plus hour to Coldfoot; should make for a very long day. Why are we doing this? ‘cause it’s there! Also we’ll see some beautiful scenery; White Mountains National Recreation Area, Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge, Kanuite Wildlife Refuge and the Gates of the Artic National Park & Preserve. All this and wildlife as well.
